Sunrise Awakenings Counseling
Suzanne Damstedt, MA, LMHC
Life can throw some difficult circumstances at us and sometimes we need a little help to get back on the road we desire. As sunrises signal a brand new day and an awakening from sleep, choosing to look for answers and assistance can begin a new journey to a more peaceful and fulfilling life. I would like to accompany you on this journey.
Hello and welcome to Sunrise Awakenings Counseling! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. To obtain my graduate degree, I attended Walla Walla University and earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. After graduating, I worked for Comprehensive Healthcare in Yakima, Washington. Following my work there, I was hired by Three Rivers Therapy in Kennewick, Washington and have worked there since February 2017. Now I am embarking on my next adventure as I partner with Mindful Therapy Group and begin my own Telehealth business.
What is a session with me like? Please allow me to explain what I bring to the therapeutic experience. During an intake session, it is important to me to understand why my client is looking for some assistance at this time in their life. I believe that we often have difficult experiences during our lives, and it is fine that we may need some extra help! One of my greatest strengths in working with my clients is my calming and empathic approach. I believe that listening to their challenges and goals for therapy are very important and try to fit my approach to the needs of each client. I have over five years of clinical experience; in addition to my degrees, credentials and experience, I bring varied personal life experiences as I am “further along” in the timeline of life. These experiences allow me to better understand some of the challenges that my clients are experiencing and include a long-term marriage, parenting young and grown children, adoptions, and foster parenthood. I have had experience working with clients from differing backgrounds and demographics.
I provide treatment for challenges such as Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Grief, and Self-esteem issues. I also work with clients on better organization and goal setting/achievement. Cognitive Behavioral concepts and Mindfulness techniques are often my preferred interventions. One treatment for trauma that I use is Written Exposure Therapy.
